The National Apartment Association (NAA) is America's leading advocate for quality rental housing. NAA's mission is to serve the interests of multifamily housing owners, managers, developers and suppliers and maintain a high level of professionalism in the multifamily housing industry to better serve the rental housing needs of the public. NAA is a federation of 170 state and local affiliates, comprised of more than 50,000 multifamily housing companies representing more than 5.9 million apartment homes throughout the United States and Canada. Members in good standing of any affiliated association are automatically considered members of NAA and entitled to NAA benefits. As a member of the Southwest Florida Apartment Association, you receive regular publications from both NAA and FAA, where in you can keep abreast of the services offered by both levels of affiliation, legislative monitoring being just one of them. FAA now offers the Multifamily Florida on their website. Check it out. Advising members of the Florida Apartment Association on Legislative Issues is Jeff Rogo, Government Affairs Director. His updates in the above publication are concise and helpful. Due to his efforts and those of our lobbyist in Tallahassee, the Florida Apartment Association had a successful 2009 legislative session. The major accomplishment was the reduction in the eviction filing fee, which will save the apartment industry an estimated $12.4 million annually. The Apartment Political Action Committee, or APAC, provides our industry with means to impact the political process in Florida. Raising funds for this committee ensures our prominence in Tallahassee and that our voice is heard. Requesting small contributions from many affiliate members is an effective way to broaden our base of support. Soliciting just $25 as a voluntary contribution, on every member dues invoice will be a sufficient step forward for FAA and the apartment industry. While optional, we hope you will contribute when paying your dues. Both logos at left are links to their respective websites. The 2010 Florida Apartment Association Legislative Conference is March 23 and 24 (2010) in Tallahassee. Each year SWFAA sends a strong contingency to this conference. It is a terrific experience and an education for all who attend. The registration form for this event is on the home page of FAA website. Go there and register now.
